About Us
For the Love of Collecting Ceramics!
The Ceramic Collectors Society was founded in September 1949 with the stated aim ‘To promote appreciation and knowledge of Ceramic Art and to form a meeting ground for collectors.
Members are interested in discussing and collecting a wide variety of ceramics, including antique English and Continental porcelain and pottery, oriental pieces, twentieth century wares and studio pottery. The emphasis is on sharing knowledge and on promoting the understanding and appreciation of ceramics and their history as part of the decorative arts.
The Society meets on the fourth Monday of every second month except for December, when we meet on the first Monday to avoid Christmas, at 7.30pm at the Uniting Church Hall, 7 Lord Street, Roseville, a short walk from Roseville Station. Meetings take the form of lectures and discussions, often accompanied by presentations with relevant ceramic and decorative pieces to view and enjoy.
Occasionally visits are arranged to places of interest such as exhibitions and collections, potters’ studios and galleries. Members are kept abreast with what is happening in the ceramic world, both here and overseas, via a regular newsletter and announcements at meetings. We are affiliated with the Powerhouse Ultimo and have established close links with other ceramic and decorative arts groups, including the Wedgewood Society NSW, Australiana Society and the Ceramics and Glass Circle.
